The final, digitally painted cover art I created for Journal 3 published by Disney Press.
In May of 2011, I was hired as the prop designer for the first season of Gravity Falls. In addition to designing close to 1,000 props, I designed and illustrated the iconic Journals inside and out.
In the Spring of 2015, Disney Press contacted me about working on a fully-realized Journal 3. The original pages I had illustrated in the series would be used in the printed publication, with newly written copy by Alex Hirsch and Rob Renzetti. Dozens of brand new layouts would be also be added. Once I said yes, a fast approaching deadline was tacked on to a mountain of brand new artwork that needed to be created. I was joined by another fellow Disney artist, Stephanie Ramirez to complete the task.
Gravity Falls Journal 3 was published by Disney Press on July 26, 2016. It quickly ended up on the New York Times bestsellers list and several editions have been printed since. A deluxe, limited, special edition was also released.
Below I have posted some original Journal art from the Gravity Falls television series along with some of my personal favorite, new pages and spreads from the the Disney Press publication.
